Tuesday Tips & Techniques With Butterfly Kisses And Blog Candy Winners Too!

BKA

BKB

I created this card and envelope using 3 of our new dies.  I also included a tip on how to get those neat little banner corners.  It was a really quick card for me.  I love layers and this one required very few.

BK1

Card Front:

  • One piece of Bazzill Swiss Dot DP 4.25"X5.5".
  • Fence DIE004-J was put through Cuttle bug twice to get the scalloped lace look on the card.
  • One piece of White cardstock put through Cuttlebug using a Sizzix Starry Night #2 embossing folder trimmed to 4"X5.25".
  • Mega Mount used with Tiny Flowers CR007  (can also be purchased as CC115) inked with Memento Bamboo Leaves.

BK2

  •  Starry Night was mounted to the Swiss Dot DP.
  •  The bottom spikes on the fence were trimmed as shown.  Then they were glued together as shown with Glossy Accents.

BK3

  • Four 5/8" strips were cut from the Tiny Flowers background.
  • The second, third, and fourth strips were each cut 3/4" shorter than the next as shown.
  •  The bottom spikes on the fence were trimmed as shown.  Then they were glued together as shown with Glossy Accents.
  • Pink satin Michaels ribbon was threaded through as shown.

BK4

  • A square punch was used to punch the corner of one end of each strip.

BK5

  • The threaded double sided "Fence" was mounted at each end to the card front.
  • Each strip was placed under the "Fence" and then mounted with glue dots at the top first and then the bottom.
  • The Bow-Easy was used to make the bow.
  • The large Butterflies DIE008-I (I cut my die in two so I can put the small one or the big one through separately) was put through the Cuttlebug using the Swiss Dots DP.  It was mounted using glue dots and Mark Richards Crystal Pearl stickers were mounted.
  • The words are from the clear stamp set Kate.  They can be purchase separately as Birthday Kisses.  They were stamped on white cardstock with Memento Bamboo Leaves, punched out with the oval punch, edged with the Bamboo Leaves ink, and mounted on the Tiny Flowers paper.  The 1/4" Magic Matter was used with a pencil to get the edge.  It was trimmed and mounted.

BK6

Inside Card and Envelope:

  • The inside was done with the very last bit of the Tiny Flowers.  The small butterfly was done with the small die.
  • There was one piece just right for the butterfly on the envelope.

New-look Website & Blog

IOWEBSCR

I am thrilled to announce the launch of our new website and blog design. We've added many features to the website to make your shopping experience easier, including the following:

  • Sample card images attached to each stamp. If we have samples for a particular stamp, we've added them to the actual product listing so they are easy to find.
  • Wish Lists. We have installed a new wish list feature that allows you to shop on the site and save items to your list so you can retrieve them later. You may also save your entire shopping basket to a wish list. It's a great way to mark stamps (or samples) you'd like to reference later.
  • Order History. Now your order history with us is online including tracking information.
  • Improved Search Function. We have added keyword searching to make searching for particular stamps easier.
  • Gift Certificates. We've added gift certificates as a product so you can purchase them in $25, $50, and $100 denominations.
  • New Products. By popular demand we have added Colorbox Fluid Chalk ink pads AND reinkers to the site. We are stocking the entire line of these pads as we use them so often with our Cover-a-Card background stamps. We have also added Action Wobble springs to the site as well (see below for a special offer).
  • Interface Improvements. There are other improvements to the shopping interface including breadcrumbs (you can see which categories a stamp is in), a mini-basket listing on the main screen, a "continue shopping" link in the shopping basket so you can pick up where you left off after adding items to your basket, and more...

I encourage you to take a look around the new site to see the improvements for yourself.

From now until Memorial Day (Monday, May 28) at midnight we are offering free shipping on all orders over just $15.00 and a free pack of 5 Action Wobble springs with every order! (Free Shipping for US & Canada only, Action Wobbles will be included in ALL orders. Wholesale orders excluded.)

Shaking Shaker Card

If you haven't seen the Action Wobble springs in "action", here's a quick tutorial using one to make a shaker card that shakes:

  1. This card uses our shaker pouches, the new die that cuts frames for the shaker pouches, a Bib Card from The Paper Cut, and features a cute Zenspirations clear set called What A Hoot.

    OWL-TUT1
  2. I used a punched circle for the larger owl, but you can use just a scrap of white cardstock and trim around it once you've attached the shaker pouch (see step 7). I also used a small scallop punched circle for the smaller owl.  Stamp both owls in black and color them.

    OWL-TUT2

  3. Stamp the Sno Cone Bib Overlay with our rectangular Cover-a-Card Stars background using Colorbox Fluid Chalk Blue Iris. Stamp the sentiment on a white strip also.

    OWL-TUT3
  4. The new Circle Shaker Die cuts frames for both sizes of our shaker pouches.  We are using the small circle pouch for this card and when you cut the frame, a by-product is a solid circle which just happens to fit the circle on the bib card perfectly so we're using it as well. Assemble the card as shown.

    OWL-TUT4
  5. I'm using a confetti mix that has moons and different sizes of stars. Our shaker pouches are self-adhesive and the 1/4" "lip" that has the adhesive needs to be covered up.  We sell pre-cut overlays that cover it and now we have dies to make cute frames that cover it and allow you to place the shaker part anywhere on the card that you would like.

    OWL-TUT5
  6. When I use things inside the shaker that are not prone to roll around (like beads), I just pile them up in the center of the image (keep any inclusions away from the edges so that they don't get stuck in the adhesive, which breaks the seal and ruins your card).

    OWL-TUT6
  7. Peel off the adhesive strip (sometimes it's a little tough to get it off, I just flick the pad of my finger on the edge of the pouch until I catch it and peel it back).  CAREFULLY place the pouch over the image, being careful to center it (especially if you are using just a scrap of paper). You can swipe the inside with a baby wipe before peel off the adhesive to get rid of static if that's a problem. Once you've stuck it down you CANNOT move it so be careful.

    OWL-TUT7
  8. Now put adhesive ON THE LIP of the pouch. For this card I do this but if you're just doing a normal shaker card you can place the adhesive on the frame or overlay. Because this shaker pouch is going to move around on the card when it wobbles, any adhesive on the back might stick to the card and prevent it from moving.  I just used my tape runner and put little pieces of adhesive around the lip in 5 or 6 places.

    OWL-TUT8

    OWL-TUT9
  9. Place the frame over the pouch and adhere.

    OWL-TUT10
  10. Attach the Action Wobble piece to the back of the shaker (the Action Wobble has printed instructions on it as to which piece goes on the card and which goes on the "wobbling" piece). They are also self-adhesive on both sides of the wobble spring.

    OWL-TUT11

    OWL-TUT12
  11. And here's the finished card!

    OWL-TUT13
  12. Check out the video to see it in action!

New Stamps that Coordinate with Stencils!

In March we began working with Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and the Crafter's Workshop to produce stamp sets to coordinate with their line of stencils. We sold out of the first batch immediately and just recently got a larger order in. Check out Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's Blog post where she shows all kinds of ideas for combining these two products.  Super cool!!!

Julieexample

There are 6 different stamps/stamp sets to choose from and she shows all of them used separately and together. Great inspiration for a neat new combination of products!

You can purchase the stamps at local stores and on our website and go to The Crafter's Workshop for the stencils.

From Our House To Yours

A House
House DIE009-Z, Door And Window DIE010-E, And Fence DIE0004-J

A tutorial using our NEW DIES and links so you can view them in our on-line store.  Also, there are 2 NEW Rubber Mounted sets and 2 NEW Clear Stamp Sets designed to be used with them too:

Notice that I have listed our stamps we already had, and you may have some of them too, and the dies that can be used with them:

Now for my tutorial using some of the NEW DIES listed under my card:

CARDFRONT BACKGROUND:

  House 2 House 3
  • Thick Stripes CC105 was inked with Memento Desert Sand and stamped on White cardstock as shown.
  • It was then stamped with Tiny Flowers CR007 (also available as Tiny Flowers CC115) and Memento Cottage Ivy.  I stamped it twice because I wanted some of the flowers w/o the stripes.  :-)
House 4 House 5
  • The House Die was used with my Cuttlebug.  It also worked fine with the newer Wizard Grand Calibur.
  • The die cut flowers was colored with a Sakura Gelly Roll Pink Stardust Pen.
  • It was then placed on white cardstock as shown.  A Magic Matter 1/8" disc was used with my pencil and then cut out.
House 6 House 7
  • I wasn't sure if I wanted the Door and Window(s) as embossed images or die cuts, so I did both.
  • I knew I wanted the Fence as a die cut.
  • On the right I am cutting out the embossed door.  I have found if I use sharp scissors and pull away slightly with my left hand (holding the image firmly) the edges of the scissors find the embossed edge and it cuts smoothly around the image.
House 8 House 4
  • So I didn't have the Memento Desert Sand marker and decided I liked both the embossed and the die cuts so:
  • I placed the die cuts face down on the ink pad, then added Glossy Accents to the backside and glued to the embossed images as shown on the left.
  • BTW, I decided the Fence would also look good as a gable, so I put it through the Cuttlebug again.

CARD BASE, INSIDE CARD, AND ENVELOPE:

It's also time to start planning the base, inside of the card, and the envelope too.

House 11 House 9
  • The sentiment on the front is from Phoebe Clear Set and can also be purchased separately in red rubber as Friend Like You.  It was stamped with Memento Cottage Ivy and edged with Desert Sand.
  • Notice the cardfont is now joined with the portion of cardstock that was left over above where I did the die cut.  I laid the cardfront so the top point just hit the top edge and the left side lined up with the left margin.  Used a pencil to trace the line and cut it with scissors.
  • That left over triangle on the left will be the bottom edge of the envelope.  Flowers on both were colored with the same Sakura pen.
  • Next I'm using the leftover piece of cardstock from the trim for the base of the cardfront.
  • I draw a line on both sides of the cardfront.
  • The left side is trimmed to the left point of the 'roof'.
  • The right was set up with my Score-Pal for the inside fold of the card.
  • It was folded and the cardfront mounted.
  • Scissors were used to trim off the extra cardstock.

INSIDE THE CARD AND THE ENVELOPE:

A House B House
There it is. Hope to see you back here for DT Thursday!! Thanks for stopping by to look and share.

Shirley
