This DT Thursday is brought to you by DT member, Dina Kowal!!  Talk about a wealth of information on techniques, etc.  She is currently visiting here in the states.  She and her family live and do missionary work in Asia.  Her card for today uses one of the stamps for this month's release, called Romeo and Juliet.  I was really intrigued by it.  I hope you enjoy the humorous take on the mice as much as I did.  So with a glance at her 'sneak peek' below, let's get on over to her blog, HERE .  While you are there, let her know what you think.  I didn't know until today, but she also has candy for some lucky people too! Looks like a beautiful card from here!

Today is our first of three New Stamps and Stamp Set Releases scheduled for March, April, and May.  It is also the beginning of our "Spring Is In The Air Challenge" and you all are still invited to join us.  First though, let me tell you all about this adorable and pretty card below:

Ladybug-card

Because today is special we are starting out with a treat from Design Team member, Julie Koerber, right here on our post.  She chose to use one of the new Claudia Tenorio-Pearl sets called Phoebe (CS371). Don’t you just love the sentiment, "Sending Ladybug Hugs"? It makes me want to smile.

Julie said she stamped in black ink, colored in Copic markers and then used Spellbinders Grand Nestabilities Circles and Scalloped Circles to create this round shaped card.

Below are some close-ups of her wonderful art work too!!  That little "lady" is just too too cute for words!!!............and thank you, Julie, for sharing her with us too!  Thank you, Julie, for giving us our wonderful start for a fun day!!

Technique Tuesday Birch Tree Arborglyphs With A Twist

The minute I saw the Cover-A-CardTM Birch stamp I knew I wanted to use it for a card.  It brought back memories of my home in northern Nevada where Birch and Aspen trees were used by Spanish Basque sheepherders to leave carved images and messages while herding in the Sierra Nevada mountains.  My professor for Spanish, also Spanish Basque, told us about his research on the Arborglyphs carved into the Birch and Aspen trees by sheepherders.  Today my Arborglyph card is about my daughter's family, but also a hello for a Nevada friend.

H2
Card Front:

A1

  • I removed the backing CAC Birch stamp and mounted to Mega MountTM, starting from bottom-right side.
  • If you look close you can see that I have flipped the mount upside down, on the right, to make sure I get a good coat of ink on the bottom.  The light is showing areas covered.

B1

  • My cardstock was been placed on my stack of paper, used for cushion, lengthwise. (If you have a piece the right size, use it) ;-)
  • I placed my stamp along the bottom while lining up with the left side of the cardstock, and rock from bottom to top. I have found I can go back and forth if I want, as long as I DO NOT LIFT the stamp. ;-0

E

  • At this point I want to stamp some leaves!  Spring really is in the air here.  I am using the smaller leaves from the Branches On A Tree Clear Stamp Set with Memento Bamboo Leaves ink first.  Then Pear Tart is used lightly.
  • A little larger leaves group with fewer leaves from the same set is used for the leaves just below the bird.
  • I made a 'Not Quite Square Twisted Easel Card".  The total card front will be 5"X5.25", so I trim this part to 4.75"X5.0". (You can see I have kept the trimmed pieces in case I want to use them later.

E

To finish the card front I used Brilliance Moonlight White on Cover-A-CardTM Fluff on blue cardstock as a frame the trees.  It was trimmed to 5"X5.25".  The trees were mounted.  I also stamped a second one to use for the base.

  • I filled in the Arborglyphs with a chronology of my daughter's family and some doodles, just for fun, with a brown fine point Sharpie.
  • The bird was penned in first with a yellow Copic Spica glitter pen.  The brown sharpie was used for the rest.
  • The bow was done with a Bow-Easy and Dotted Swiss ribbon from Michaels.
  • The flowers at the bottom right right are again from Branches On A Tree Clear Stamp Set. The flowers were stamped using StazOn Sunflower Yellow and outlined with the Spica. The centers are brown Sharpie. The leaves are Memento Bamboo Green.

The Card Base With A Twist:

F
If you have seen a 'Twisted Easel Square Card', you may have noticed that when the card front is sitting up as an easel, it really doesn't rest evenly against the right edge of the base.  That drove me nuts.  ;-)  I found if I extend the card front over about a quarter inch it still looked square and did what I wanted with the base.  Below how I did it.

  1. The base remains 'square' and is cut 5"X10".
  2. Fold it in half.
  3. Unfold it and lay it lengthwise.
  4. Fold the lower left-hand corner of the left side to the centerfold as shown above and smooth the crease.
  5. TapeTwist

  6. Next Smooth it out again and lay it lengthwise so the inside of the card is on the bottom and the unfolded area to your right.
  7. Apply tape as shown in the diagram.
  8. Line your finished card front up with the centerfold.  (It will line up perfectly alone every side but the right.  On the right the cardstock will extend .25" over the edge, and that's perfect.)

Inside Bottom Base:

  • At this point I turned the card over and placed the other piece of "Fluff" on the inside bottom base of the card, with a 4.75"X4.75" piece of white cardstock centered on top of that.
  • The same flower/leaf design was stamped on the lower left hand side.
  • I used a Spellblinders oval die as a template for the piece of white cardstock I used for the sentiment from Social Greetings 2.  The sentiment was stamped with Memento Cocoa Brown.  That was mounted on the same blue cardstock used for the border.  Leaves were stamped on that.
  • 3D pop dots were attached to the back of the sentiment along the top area.  ATG tape was used on the bottom.
  • It was attached by standing the card front up so I could see when it was even with the base on the right.

That's my Arborglyph with a Twist.  You could carve birthdays, special dates, etc.  A fun way to give a special card.  I hope you enjoyed it.  If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask.  My email is under my name in the sidebar to your right.

Stop by day after tomorrow, Thursday, March 15, to see our Design Team's creations showing off our NEW MARCH STAMP releases.  It is also the start of our "Spring Is In The Air Challenge".  The challenge for will continue until the following Wednesday evening, March 21, at 10 p.m.  Participating gives you a chance to win a $25 gift certificate.  So get busy out there and create your card for our "Spring Is In The Air" cards using all IO stamps and then post it using the Inlinkz at the bottom of the March 15 post.  If you have questions please email me.  My email is right under my name in the next column over.

Get busy out there and join us for our next challenge and invite a friend to enjoy it with you!!!  Thanks for stopping by to look and share!

I think a wonderful time was had by all!  Our winner, selected by Random.org for our "True Blue Challenge", is Carole Parsons at Magnolia Place.  Congratulations, Carole, and happy shopping!

This DT Thursday is hosted by DT member, Jenny Gropp!!  Her blog is wonderful, from that awesome banner, right down to her clever watermark for her cards.  She also teaches classes.  Her students are very lucky, after looking at her cards and tutorials too.  She has assembled a real treat for us today, using all New Spring images!  So with a glance at her 'sneak peek' let's get on over to her blog, HERE.  While you are there, let her know what you think.  Looks like a beautiful card from here!

Tuesday Techniques And Tutorials.....Just Because!

PH0
I will be posting tutorials and techniques on Tuesdays.  Today I am using the Mega MountTM and stamping with Cover-A-CardTM stamps to create a simple background and then show how easy it is to give the central image more depth.  There is also an idea for using the remnants from the background and the card front.

So Lets get started:

PH 1
SUPPLIES:

Stamps

Inks -

  • Memento Summer Sky, Bamboo Leaves, Pear Tart, and Tuxedo Black
  • StazOn Jet Black

Cardstock (CS)-

  • Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80lb Cardstock - Images
  • Domtar Cougar White Super Smooth 100lb Cardstock 5.25"X10.5" - Folded Card
  • Bazzill Blue Bell Cardstock

Accessories -

  • Mega MountTM, styluses, Pergamano mat, 1/8" 3D pop dots, May Arts ribbon, left over bare stick pin, Mark Richards Black Onyx rhinestones, Fiskars Paper Crimper

1. CARD FRONT:

PH 2

  • First I removed the backing from the cling.  (I save the backing and put it back  when I have cleaned the stamp.  It preserves the cling so it continues to attach well to the back of the acrylic mount.)  Ask me how I know!!!
  • I aligned the stamp, with the mount facing me, to the bottom right-hand side (corner) of the mount.
  • I inked and stamped the Cover-A-CardsTM Clouds first with my blue ink.
  • Next I did the same with the Cover-A-CardTM Bamboo stamp.
  • When inking your stamp, if you hold it at an angle, the light should help you see if it is covered well.  I never stamp with a dry ink pad unless I want a 'weathered' look (missed spots).

PH 3      A. Lining Up Your Mount to stamp on the cardstock:

  • The white paper underneath the CS is used printer paper turned over.  I get a better impression if I have a cushion.  When I'm done with it I throw it in the recycle bin.
  • I have turned the inked mount over and lined up with the bottom and LEFT side of the CS.  It saves bigger pieces of CS to use for other stamping.
  • I sit when using the Mega Mount and rock it from the bottom to the top.  I say rock because, depending upon the ink, I can move it back and forth and still get a good impression. (Some people like to hold it so they move from left to right.)
  • I clean the stamp right away with a wipee, replace the backing, and store it in a 6"X6" zip-lock bag with the copy of the stamp image.

  PH 4

  • As you can see the background is almost done.
  • I wanted a ground effect for the Pandas, so I stamped them next to see how they would look with the BG space.
  • The BG was trimmed to 5"X5" and the remnants are saved for the inside and envelope.

PH 5yes

  • I stamped the Pandas twice.  The first image was cut out and laid against the background to see where the Pandas would look best.
  • Two inks were daubed on scratch on the right to get a feel for how they might look on the BG and then added to the CAC BG.

PH6yes

  • I turned the cut out Pandas over and used a stylus on the entire back. TIP - If you stylus is too small it will tear through the paper.  Some use wax on their tip.  I don't.  Next I turned them back over and use the fine tipped stylus to line the heads, arms, and legs.  Do Pandas have arms?  Hee hee!!!
  • You can see I daubed the ground for them.  Next I cut out the Mama Panda's head, her right front leg (your left), and the baby Panda's right leg.  You can see how I placed the 3D pop-dots for the head.  The legs have already been placed.

PH7a

  • After taping the bottom edge of the Pandas and lining it with May Arts gathered ribbon, the image was mounted to the card front using 3D pop dots on the BG.
  • The card front was then mounted on white and blue CS.
  • The sentiment was stamped on a piece of .75"X3" white CS and attached to a bare stick pin as shown.  (Black Onyx rhinestone stickers were attached as shown.
  • The finished card front was mounted on 5.25"X10.25" white folded CS.

2.  INSIDE CARD AND ENVELOPE:

PH8

  • The REMNANTS from the CLOUDS/BAMBOO CACS BG and leftover blue CS were run though a Paper Crimper in both directions.  Then they were peeled apart as shown above. (On the envelopes, it keeps the outside smoother to go through postal machines.  It's a nice little personal touch too.)  On the inside it's a quick and easy way to give the inside some decor without painting or coloring if you don't have similar smaller stamp(s), etc.

PH01
Before I say good-bye, a reminder that if there is a technique you would like to see, tell me and I will add it to my list.  My email is above and just below my name in the sidebar to your right.

This was fun and I hope you enjoyed it too.  Thanks for stopping by to look and say hi!
