Sandra McDonald We have just received our first Customer Challenge card from Sandra McDonald.  She said, "I'm entering this gorgeous Peacock - E1674 by Gary Robertson of I/O, that I think would be great for a "Guys Card".  I used Copics to color in the peacock.  The background paper was given to me by a friend and I do not know the company name."

Thank you so much Sandra for playing and your card is indeed gorgeous!  You can all click on her name to visit her blog and some more eye candy.  You will also be able to view her card in our gallery in a few minutes.

I-O Round Fish E1632

For this card I chose Round Fish - E1632 by Gary Robertson and A5455 "dropping you a line".  Gary has some gorgeous wild life stamps.

Image:

I-O Round Fish E1632 2

It was stamped on White cardstock with StazOn Forrest Green ink, painted with Twinkling H2O's, and highlighted with Shimmerz. I used a Niji Waterbrush just slightly wet to paint with Shimmerz.  They really go on smoother for me that way.  I used Glossy Accents on the bubbles and the eyes!

A Spellbinders Round die was used as a template to trace around the image.  Then the image was turned face down in the die and an Embossing Stylus was used to put a rim around the image.  Quicker than going into the other room and back.  The next die down was placed in the middle of that and another rim was embossed. It kind of looks like you might be seeing him/her through a submarine window. It and the words were mounted on 3d Pop dots.

Background:

The DP behind the image and under the ribbon are both from the Basic Grey Marrakech collection.  The paper under the ribbon is really more like the color of the water where the fish is.  The ribbon is May Arts and it is a deep olive with an orange cast to it.  Both are much prettier IRL.  The paper at the very back behind the blue is Stardream Fuse Flame, a hot orange.  The brads are copper.

The Spellbinders Large Oval next to smallest die was used for the words.  I traced the impression with the stylus just like I did for the fish.  I also sponged some of the Twinkling H2O that I used for the water around the edge of the die cut.  The words were stamped with StazOn Olive Green.  I went over them with a Gelly Roll Stardust Dark Green pen.  Copper cord was used to tie into the words.

If I have time I may take another picture.  The colors are more Pumpkin Orange, Aqua, and Olive Green.

Supplies:

    Faux Pergamano

    I-O Butterfly Tree F2334

This technique gave me an opportunity to learn something else.  I had always said Peragamo and it is Pergamano.  And I found out I wasn't alone.  Hee hee.  There is also some confusion as to whether Norwegians, Danes, or Spanish nuns created the technique.  Imagine that.  Maybe people in Europe got around a lot more than we thought they did way back when.  Genuine Pergamano takes a lot longer to do than what I am about to show you.  I have seen Faux Pergamano done 2 different ways, so I have used both on my card to let you decide what you would like.

The image is Butterfly Tree E2334 by Leigh Hannan.

    I-O Butterfly Tree F2334 2

    Image:

Pergamano is done with vellum (parchment paper). I put my Vellum through the Cuttlebug using the largest die from the Spellbinders Large Oval Scallops. The stack was A Plate, B Plate, Die Cut (sharp edge facing up), vellum, Spellbinders emboss mat (or Lowes gasket), B Plate. Now you are probably wondering why not die cut it before embossing it. Well, because it's vellum, it embosses and cuts it at the same time. I was thrilled when I discovered that.

    1.  Quickest Faux Pergamano Method for the Tree: Brilliance Moonlight White was used to stamp the tree in the oval. Brilliance ink raises up when it is heated and simulates Pergamano lightly done. I turned it over and painted the tree and butterflies with Dye markers. You can use Tombow, SU, etc.

NOTE: The important characteristic of Vellum to remember when selecting your color medium is that when it gets too wet it buckles or curls.  Dye or alcohol inks seem to work fine as long as the area is not saturated with it.  I don't think I would try watercolors.

    2.  The closest to Pergamanotechnique was used on the the outside scalloped edge.  I painted it on top with a thick Twinkling H2O Siam White.  It doesn't have any mica or shine to it other than white.  When dry, it was turned over and a Stylus with a medium ball was used to create the puff look you see above.  If it had all been done this way, the white areas of the Butterfly Tree would have all been done from the back, after the color was applied to the tree and butterflies.  It needs to be done on a surface with some give.  Mine was done on the stack of used computer paper that I use for all of my stamping, etc.  If the surface is too soft or you push too hard, the paper can rip.

A piece of white cardstock was cut using a Spellbinders Large Oval die that fits inside the scalloped one.  It was taped on the edge with ATG tape and mounted in the center on the back of the tree.  It was mounted onto a piece of Stardream Serpentine paper.  A 1/4" disc from Magic Matter and a pencil were used around the scalloped edge to create the outside border of the Oval.  It was trimmed and mounted onto a piece of Anna Griffin Designer Paper and then onto a piece of White cardstock embossed with scrolling ivy. Two slits were punched using a small slot punch. The ribbon was threaded through and left free until mounted to the final piece of Designer Paper.

    Final Steps:

It was then mounted on another piece of the Anna Griffen cardstock and the ribbon was secured to the back of each side. The words, from Clear Stamps Sentiments I, were stamped on the front with Brilliance Pearlescent Lime and heat embossed to speed drying.  The bow was tied with my Bow-Easy.  A Gold bead cap is from my stash from AC Moore. It was mounted on the cap with a glue dot and a pearl placed on top.  The pears were also added to the opposite corners.  They are all 5MM. Stickles Diamonds and Yellow glitter glues were added to highlight the center of the flower and little swirls on the tree.

    Supplies:
Stamps: Butterfly Tree E2334 by Leigh Hannan, Clear Stamps Sentiments I WP16
Paper:Vellum, Stardream Chiara Serpentine,  Anna Griffin Designer Paper, White Embossed cardstock
Inks: Brilliance Moonlight White and Pearlescent Lime, Twinkling H2O's Siam White, SU Markers Gable Green and Pretty-In-Pink
Accessories: Spellbinders Nestabilities Large Oval and Large Oval Scallops dies, Hobby Lobby Ribbon, Bow Easy, Stickles Diamonds and Yellow Glitter Glue, Gold bead cap

There you have it.  A really simple card that took a lot of explaining about Pergamano.  Thanks for stopping by to look and share.  I will see you all back here on Thursday I hope for the Greetings for the Guys in Our Lives Challenge
